Reporting from Express, Monday (30/9/2024) starting in December 2024, the train will serve routes from Vienna to cities such as Hamburg, Zurich, and Barcelona in the near future. The travel revolution was carried out by an Australian company (OBB) which cost 623 million pounds.
With a shiny design and luxurious interior, the Nightjet train has a mini capsule-style cabin, a complete compartment with a toilet, and a cafe inside.
The Nightjet can travel up to 230 kilometers per hour. Towards the end of 2024, a new route between Zurich and Barcelona will soon open and make history by connecting Switzerland and Spain via this train for the first time in decades.
The project actors stated that it was not only an improvement in transportation, but also a step towards more environmentally conscious travel.
OBB CEO Andreas Mattha hopes that the transportation revolution will increase the number of passengers and of course will have an impact on tourism levels.
“We are investing because there is great demand. Night trains are a real form of climate protection. Our target is to increase the number of night train passengers from 1.5 to three million per year,” he said.
Each of the 33 new train carriages is designed with sustainability in mind, reducing the need for short-haul flights, and giving the train a modern and luxurious look in the post-pandemic era.
