China Car become King of the road in Indonesia

The performance of national car sales in wholesale or from the manufacturer to the dealer. Recorded, sales in October 2024 managed to print the highest level since the beginning of the year, reaching 77,191 units.
Even so, the achievement in 2024 is still below the performance in 2023. With 2 months left in 2024, it will be difficult for Indonesian car sales to touch the same number in 2023 which reached 1,005,802 units. In accumulation, national car sales for the January-October 2024 period have reached 710,406 units.

This figure is lower by 125,722 units or 15.05% compared to the accumulated car sales in January-October 2023 which reached 836,128 units.

If you look at the detailed data released by Astra International on Monday (11/11/2024), national car sales on a monthly basis from January 2024 to September 2024 have always been below 77,000 units.

Consecutive monthly sales from January to September 2024 were 69,758 units, 70,722 units, 74,720 units, 48,762 units, 71,391 units, 74,625 units, 74,229 units, 76,302 units, and 72,666 units.

Interestingly, in terms of brands that sell their cars, there is a competitive situation. As many as 5 manufacturers, namely Toyota, Daihatsu, Mitsubishi, Honda and Suzuki have indeed formed The Big 5 as the king of Indonesian cars that are difficult to be shifted by other brands.

However, the Japanese manufacturers must be vigilant because the Chinese manufacturer BYD began to threaten because it began to exist just below the Big 5.

In the past month, BYD sold 2,488 units, ranked 6th best-selling car brand and overtook Fuso, Hino, and Isuzu. In fact, the brands that focus on commercial vehicles have been in the national automotive industry for decades, while BYD has only been selling effectively for the last 3-4 months in Indonesia.

Secretly This is the key to success for China’S EV King BYD entering the RI-Malaysia market

Like Sun Tzu’s Chinese-style war tactics, China’s electric car newcomer Build your Dreams (BYD) uses a strategy to take advantage of the battlefield in order to excel. In the Indonesian and Malaysian markets, BYD is doing this with a market-touching promotion in two countries, so that there are currently 22,000 BYD electric cars ordered in two countries.

General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division LiuXueliang, at the Denza media day Malaysia and Indonesia event, redefining Intelligent Electronics at the BYD office, Monday (25/11/2024).

On the same occasion, BYD Motor Indonesia President Director Eagle Zhao, who also serves as BYD’s Managing Director for Malaysia, said BYD had achieved outstanding results in the Malaysian and Indonesian markets.

To date, sales of our new energy vehicles in both countries have exceeded 22,000 units, which strengthens our leading position in the market.

“This outstanding achievement fully demonstrates consumers’ high recognition of BYD’s brand and technology, ” he said.

Eagle added This is also a testament to BYD’s continuous promotion of environmentally friendly vehicle-based mobility, is also an inevitable trend of electrification of the automotive industry.

What is BYD’s war strategy in Indonesia?

It turns out that BYD is not directly targeting the private passenger market, but is entering the public transportation segment in both countries. This is certainly a strategic promotion to show the sophistication of innovation and toughness of its car products, and is quite telling after being used for years before being released to the market in general to private consumers. In Indonesia, BYD took the Blue Bird taxi as its fleet.

“BYD is promoting electric mobility since 2018. BYD delivers taxis and electric forklifts to taxi companies and users in Indonesia, and has established close partnerships with local companies,” Eagle said.
